Roasting A Whole Chicken

I feel like I shouldn't have to say this but...this is NOT a lesson plan for children to study or practice alone. This is a project intended to be completely and 100% supervised. This is not intended for small children. I used this lesson plan with (and designed it for) my 3 older daughters, who were 11,  and 9 at the time they completed it. They did a wonderful job and had no problems. They have been very conscious of potential cross contamination not only in the kitchen but at the grocery store when our food is getting bagged as well! They were very into the process of preparing the chicken, although 2 of them definitely enjoyed it more than the 3rd, who isn't into touching "gross" things lol. The other 2 had the chicken dancing in the sink as they washed it, and took a really odd delight in stuffing the chicken with rosemary and lemon. The third helped clean, but didn't play with it or touch it more than neccesary and had no interest in assisting with the stuffing.

They all enjoyed this lesson plan and cooking dinner very much! In our home we give thanks to Mom and Dad every night for cooking and providing dinner. That night, we thanked our girls and Daddy, and they couldn't have beamed any brighter! We also used an image we got from google of a chicken showing the cuts of meat, but since we did not create that obviously we could not post it, but you can find many of them simply by googling.
