Holiday Projects
Here are some of our favorite holiday projects!
"Hand"-made Wreath's & Trees
Supplies: Construction paper, scissors, glue stick (optional: glitter, pom poms, puffy paint)
For the wreath, help your child trace their hand on green construction paper several times. How many hands you use determines how large you can make your wreath. Your child can also draw and cut out other decorations for their wreath, such as a bow, some berries, or perhaps a pinecone, whatever makes them happy. Lay out your shapes once so you know how your end result should look, and then begin gluing your project together!
For the tree, help your child trace their hand on green construction paper, with their fingers stretched out as much as they can comfortabley. Next, help them trace Mom & Dad's hands in the same way. The more family memers you have, the taller your tree will be. Arrange the hands with the largest on bottom, and the smallest on top, fingers pointing down. Once you and your child have laid it out and are happy with it's shape begin gluing. Once your tree has dried you can give it a trunk with brown paper, or make put some decorations on it. It's a good time for kids to draw and cut out their decorations while the tree dries.
Love-ly Sugar Cookies -
Kids love to leave Santa cookies! It's almost become a passage right of childhood in our culture, and these cookies are sure to put a smile on your kid AND Santa's face!
To make "ILY" sugar cookies simply trace your child's hand on a piece of cardstock or a manilla folder. (Don't forget to bend or cut off the middle fingers for the ILY sign!) Cut it out and lay out a sheet of parchment. Trace your hand shape to place the cookies.
Roll out your dough, lay the parchment over it, get a pairing knife, and begin cutting out your cookies.
Alternatively, you could also purchase a cookie cutter in that shape, but if you don't have the means or desire you can do it the way we do! :)
